In this watercolor painting I try to capture the tranquil essence of Marabou Park in Sundbyberg, Sweden. This watercolour features the prominent sculpture “Grande Cavallo” (Big Horse) by Italian sculptor Marino Marini. The evolution of the horse as a subject in Marini’s works reflects the artist’s response to the changing context of the modern world. The sculpture is surrounded here by vibrant autumn flower beds and leafless autumn trees. In the foreground, I included two of the white park benches that invite viewers to immerse themselves in this serene setting. I chose a color palette of greens, browns, and ochres, against a light wash of sky and clouds to hopefully evoke feelings of calm and wonder. Created using watercolors on cold-pressed art paper with pencil and gel pen details, this piece reflects my appreciation for the beauty of Sweden’s autumn landscape. Inspired by a chance glance out of my window and the local Folk High School, I aimed to highlight the harmonious blend of nature and art in my surroundings.
